Six of nine Chicago trustees resigned Monday amid Mayor Thompson demands and graft allegations in the school board scandal. Trustee Hart Hanson resisted resigning, while Edwin S. Davis and Albert H. Severinghaus were among those who yielded. William A. Bother and Charles J. Forsberg, both linked to the board, were ousted as the crisis escalated.
Mrs. Lottie Gardenier of Berlin farm near Green Lake was found guilty of first degree murder in the death of her husband Fred Gardenier last January. Authorities say she bought two packages of poison a week before his death, one package returned, and she used a fake name during purchase. The case revealed discussions of divorce with a friend and three children remain.
Baraboo grade schools wrapped up activities with picnics. The Junior High six rooms met at Oschners park for games and a supper after. Third ward lower grades ate in Effingers park at noon. Sixth grades from First and Third wards picnicked at Oschners park with games and a marshmallow roast by the river.
The Madison Baptist Association finished its three day session with about fifty delegates from eleven churches. Speakers included Dr. E. J. Pace of Chicago on the Law of Octave and Milwaukee State Superintendent LeGrande. Isabel Crawford, a pioneer missionary among Indians, shared her work. A young people rally at Devils Lake drew over a hundred attendees.
The County Normal at Reedsburg will hold commencement exercises on Thursday evening June 15 at the Armory. Prof. Harold Cramer of the University Extension of Madison will deliver an address titled Here or Nowhere. The Baccalaureate sermon will be given at the Methodist church by Rev. T. S. Beavin Sunday evening.
Three rifle volleys and taps marked the funeral for Col J A Watrous in Milwaukee. Military honors followed services at Scottish Rite cathedral led by Rev C H Beale. Gen Charles King headed cavalry escort as thousands lined streets to honor Watrous at Forest Home cemetery.
Inter Se club members and friends met on Tuesday afternoon June 6 at Mrs. E. M. Adams home. A short program featured readings recitations and childhood to middle age stories followed by a four course dinner at Hotel Wellington. The club plans programs for the coming year and will resume October 5. Heat claims first 1922 death in Chicago an unknown man aged about 60 died in Grant Park.
The Baraboo High School class of 1922 held its class day program in the auditorium with a pink and white decor. The program featured performances by the girls glee club and boys glee club, a president’s address, poetry, prophecies, and humorous mementoes that drew laughter from parents and teachers.
Seventy guests attended a six thirty dinner at the Wellington hotel hosted by Baraboo Wholesale office formerly Gerber’s. Attendee mix included patrons stockholders and employees. Attorney B C F Meier served as toastmaster noting growth from over 100000 in year one to nearly 300000 last year with projection toward half a million. Daniel Roberts performed with Dorothea Moog on piano.
Keyes Aton nineteen year old son of Mr and Mrs W H Aton formerly of Mason City Iowa completed a 175 mile hike to Baraboo with a companion. They left June 4 and arrived June 10 averaging about 26 miles daily. They visited Robert Aton near Prairie du Lac before camping at Devils Lake. The family plans a family visit and month long camp at the lake.
Rev. W. W. Moore delivered the baccalaureate sermon on The Building of a Life from 2 Timothy 2 15 at the Methodist church. He urged self discovery and personal responsibility, saying God and man must cooperate to form character and that life plans and wise investments shape lasting virtue and progress.
Prohibition officers arrested Tony Ligarrio near Basco on possession of liquor. A secret vault beneath lumber concealed 25 gallons of moonshine and 50 gallons of wine. Ligarrio pleaded not guilty at his superior court arraignment.
Baraboo merchants closed early for the first Thursday half holiday while many residents enjoyed picnics and swims. The local baseball team drew a small crowd at the fairgrounds for the opener, losing 10 to 4 to the strong French Rayolite squad from Madison with Jerry Frenz as umpire.
A Saturday afternoon storm moved east from Lake Mendota wrecking about thirty barns and tobacco sheds. The estimated loss is $100,000. One horse drowned in the Yahara river.
The Kiwanis luncheon moved to the Warren hotel main dining room for this week's talk. Dr G E Hunt pastor of Christ Presbyterian Madison spoke on The International Mind for about an hour, as Iowa Day featured remarks by Assistant Principal Herman Bogard promoting the upcoming Chautauqua.

Senator Lenroot told members of the Sergt. Jasper post of the American Legion in Washington on Friday night that the bonus bill would pass both houses within a month.
Widespread flooding in Green Bay area closes rail lines south of Green Bay with only one line open. The Fox River and East River overflow, washing out bridges, culverts, and tracks. Wrecking crews and a pile driver worked through weekend as crops and outbuildings are ruined.
The 56 graduates of the class held a senior banquet at the Morris hotel in Delton on Thursday evening. Despite a rain downpour, most cars arrived and the event proceeded with a four course dinner, orchestra, and a program led by class president Kenneth H. Conway. A floor sing and dancing followed, with faculty chaperones present and Mrs. Otto Mielke visiting relatives in North Freedom.
