A large crowd attended the Glenville schoolhouse program organized by teachers Elsie Phoenix and Mary Simpson. Diplomas were awarded to Edna Hunt Marion Fisher Eleanor Kessler and Roy Briscoe. Principal W E Smith praised the graduates and the event closed with a soldier drill and patriotic songs.

Dies Suddenly at Reedsburg
David Sparks a longtime Reedsburg resident died suddenly Friday morning at his home after expiring in minutes in the bathroom. Apoplexy caused the death. He had been in failing health, was a Civil War veteran, and a member of H. A. Tasodtor post G. A. R. He left a wife.

Men’s Club Banquet Reflects on War and Faith
The First M. E. church men’s club held its season finale banquet in the parlors with about forty members attending. A wheel shaped table setup, flowers, and a fine supper preceded programs featuring Dr. W. A. Hazelton on justice in wartime, Rev. J. W. Irish on America and the World War, T. F. Risley on Army Y M C A, and Rev. C. E. Weed on the church’s role in war.

Painful Fishing Injuries Reported Along Wisconsin River
Two men suffer neck injuries from fishing hooks. Ja cob Kiefer of this city and William Jaquith were casting on the Wisconsin river near Okee when a patent bait hook struck Kiefer in the neck, two hooks embedding deeply and needing a physician. Kiefer treated in Lodi after removal. William Helmann of Portage also hurt by a patent ball hook on a pond near Pardeeville and required medical removal.

Sudden Death of Local Resident James Sainsbury
James Sainsbury aged about 76 died suddenly at noon Wednesday at his home in Reedsburg from heart failure. He had been delivering flour and feed that morning and had seemed in good health. A Civil War veteran and G A R member, he resided in Reedsburg for many years and is survived by a wife, two daughters in California, and two sons in Winfield.

Snowballing at Devils Lake Draws Attention
Two Baraboo youths were snowballing at Devils Lake after visiting the ice cave at the Kirk land side of Devils Lake State Park. They gathered several inches of snow and showed snowballs at the pier, noting that snow and ice can linger under leaves in the cave into July and August.

Hydrophobia Suspected After Cat Bite in Black Hawk
Mrs. Fred Schubring of Black Hawk was bitten by an angry cat last week and taken to the University of Wisconsin hygienic laboratory in Madison for treatment. The cat had previously been sent to the state laboratory and was found to be hydrophobic.

Beloit College marks fiftieth graduation anniversary
S E Lathrop, longtime Capitol guide, traveled to Beloit for the fiftieth anniversary of the 1867 Beloit College class. Of thirteen graduates, eight survive. seventeen served in the Civil War with one killed at Shiloh and another losing an arm at Resaca. A class letter circulated worldwide for fifty years.

The Woodman picnic at Lodi drew a large crowd with a Baraboo Marine band leading the procession from the depot to the fair grounds. Ableman defeated Lodi 11 to 3 in a ball game, Royal Neighbors won best flag drill, Woodmen Forester team won drill, tug of war favored Woodmen, Lloyd Lamberton won the Woodman race, and a band concert preceded the evening dance.
