A locomotive collided with the rear of a passenger train near Allis injuring several travelers. First responders arrived quickly and transported injured to area hospitals. Investigators collected skid marks and spoke with crew members to determine fault and speed.
A Chicago and North Western locomotive crashed into a wooden passenger coach at Allis injuring many. Steam from a switch engine blinded the engineer and heat sparked a fire soon put out by the local fire department. The state railroad commission will begin an investigation led by Commissioner Walter Alexander with Frederick A. Potts assisting.
Governor Phillip restores Dr. A. R. Law of Madison to practice after a manslaughter conviction in the past. Citizens had petitioned to reinstate his professional rights following the criminal operation case involving Mrs. Mary O'Brien.
Word comes from Milwaukee of the death of George Rayerilen a former Kilbourn resident and brother of Mrs. August Lengrothe.
The Interstate Commerce Commission approved a four tenths of a cent per mile fare rise on interstate traffic for the Chicago and North Western and Milwaukee and St. Paul railroads. The change affects trips to Chicago and raises the price by 67 cents from this date, with no impact on state rates.
Walter Pratt of Portage was operating a wood sawing machine when a belt needed adjusting. He fell onto the spinning saw and lost his arm. He bled heavily and doctors were hard to find.

Elsie Thomas twelve year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Alvin Thomas died Wednesday morning at Kilbourn January 12 after a brief illness with Brights disease. The funeral was at the German M E church and interment in Spring Grove cemetery.

Columbia County board of supervisors again refuses to pay part of the Prairie du Sac highway bridge cost. Vote on the report was 28 to 9.
Ethel daughter of Mr and Mrs Edward Murphy died Wednesday after a five week illness of Brights disease. Born at Dell Prairie sixteen years ago she and her family moved to Kilbourn two years ago. Funeral Saturday at the Catholic Church with Rev Father Hannert officiating. interment in Catholic cemetery. Community sorrow expressed for the family.
The Reedsburg Farmers' Fire Insurance Company held its annual meeting in Reedsburg. Old officers were reelected: William Halbersleben president A E Geffert secretary Henry Lueders treasurer and assessors Albert Sefkar LaValle Henry Behnke Al Fosa A Gade W Hamburg. Five thousand two hundred forty eight dollars and eleven cents was paid out for losses during the year. The company voted to accept all risks where acetylene lights were used regardless of generator position.
Miss Minnie Lukensmier, guest of her sister Mrs. H. C. Gropp, returns to Ableman from Sanborn Minnesota where she learned of her brother August Lukensmier’s serious illness and planned operation. August, injured years ago by a fall from an engine cab, remains in pain at his Rochester area home. Mrs. Gropp suffers grip but shows some improvement.
A reader shares an 1864 account book snapshot noting prices such as 2 pounds sugar for 50 cents in August 1864, coal for 7.50 per half ton, flour at 5.75 per half barrel in 1864, 2 pounds butter 86 cents in 1865, and 5 gallons kerosene for 5.25 in September 1865.
Mrs. Kate Cummings of Baraboo reports on William Roach, formerly of Merrimack, receiving final patent papers for his railroad mowing machine. Roach claims the machine mows both track sides, covers thirty miles daily, and could yield about 750 dollars hourly in mowing value, with build cost around 200 dollars. He plans to pursue settlements with Milwaukee railroad users infringing his patent.
Wednesday evening at six oclock in the home of Mr and Mrs George Steckenbauer the marriage of Miss Lillian Steckenbauer to Mr Earl Dieter with Rev E C Henke officiating was witnessed by family. Attendants were Miss Leone Deiter and Mr Herbert Steckenbauer. The couple will reside in the community.
Oscar Quale of Hudson Wisconsin forwards a St Paul Dispatch note about his brother Ole Quale of Hanl Clare Baraboo area reporting twins born on different years. One daughter arrived in 1915 and the other in 1916, a surprisingly split birth record.
Mr and Mrs Ole Quale are believed to be the parents of the region s first 1915 1916 twins two girls born to the couple. The physician records show the first baby born at 11 50 p m December 31 1915 and the second at 12 10 a m January 1 1916.
Mr Quale writes from Hudson that his brother worked in Baraboo months while the telephone plant was rebuilt. Rev Orrick W Watkins and Otis G Watkins were twins born December 31, 1817 and January 1, 1818 in Vermont. They lived in Baraboo with one dying at Carlton Minnesota and the other in Baraboo. The Baraboo Watkins brothers are sons of Otis G Watkins.
