The January county board opened with a special committee report on Highway Commissioner G F Post, the county clerk, and highway funds. The audit was incomplete since 1909, books poorly kept, and vouchers lacking. over half a million dollars spent without full documentation, prompting a board resolution to finish the audit.
Residents may vote by post card on or before January 14 to John McLain Merrimack on the name of the new lake above Prairie du Lac dam. School children in nearby towns will cast ballots at their schools.
On Tuesday evening burglars again tried to enter A M Rodems fruit store. Officer Buckley found a rear door ajar but no one nearby. Two men fled upon seeing the officer. Later, burglars bored holes in a window at Emil Platt saloon but were deterred by steel shutters and a steel door. they fled without theft.
Senator George Staudenmayer and his nephew John Jones of Caledonia travel through Portage toward Beaver Dam to discuss a possible appointment. Congressman Burke has consented to recommend Jones for entry to West Point next June or to the U S Naval Academy at Annapolis a year later, whichever he prefers.
The notice lists licenses issued for marriage to individuals including Herman Bricks of Plain Grace, R C Snowden of West Allis, Catherine Davey of Loganville, Henry W Schrank of Reedsburg, and Rosa Ziech of Winfield, among others.
Baraboo resident William Toole speaks at the horticulturists meeting on Wisconsin beauty noting how neighborhood improvement incentives come from local exemplars. The state reports that over 3,000 hotels exist and about 95 percent of commercial hotels have adopted the new rules. The key regulation requires sheets to measure 96 inches in length.
John S Crowder promoted to state manager for Indiana after writing over 300 000 in annual insurance for Central Life. He moves from Madison to Indianapolis, with Madison as his home base until staff relocates. Educated at DePauw, cousin to John S New, and tied to Senator Beveridge as a college mate. Previous pastor in Baraboo.
The Wisconsin state Horticultural society at its annual Madison meeting re elected officers for the coming year. They are President N A Rasmussen Oshkosh Vice President D E Bingham Sturgeon Bay Treasurer Senator L G Kellogg Ripon Secretary Frederic Cranefield Madison who also edits the society magazine. Baraboo prizes in fruit exhibits went to J E Baer J S Palmer A D Brown William Toole and H R Platt.
Humane Officer H. E. Stone received a call about neglected stock in the northern part of the county. The owner replied with a note saying the shoe did not fit him and insisted his cattle were well cared for while wishing a Happy New Year.
Walter A. Stone son of Mr and Mrs Albert Stone and Mary A Ihde daughter of Mr and Mrs Albert Ihde were married at Delton Holy Cross church on Wednesday January 5 1916 Rev W MacCartney officiated. Attendants were Fred Ihde Claude Turner Vera Sarrington and Hylda Turner. They plan to live in Baraboo.
A local contest between ONUAT Team Luuat and its opponent ended in a draw. Officials noted balanced play with no decisive goals and a final score that reflected an even outcome for both sides.
Judge E. Ray Stevens presided in Baraboo with cases including Henry Martin of Ableman sentenced to eighteen months at Waupun with parole. Martin cited non support and prior county jail time. Foreclosures in Potterville vs Cox and Blackman vs Stratton were confirmed. Gould and Case were nolled. Nettie Colden vs Benjamin Colden discussed potential divorce, three children with mother. James Seaborn aged 66 died at his Fairfield home after a year of ill health. Born in Baraboo December 3, 1849 he lived in Cleveland then Baraboo before marrying Fairfield resident Jeanie Herrick in 1887. Survived by wife a son Harold and two brothers. funeral Sunday at his home then the M E church with Rev. E P Hall officiating.
