Mrs Adeline Davis, a niece of Abraham Lincoln, was buried in Plainfield’s potters field. The town paid funeral expenses of 65 dollars. Davis lived 15 miles west of the village and had lived in Adams county over forty years. She was thirteen when Lincoln became president and died at age sixty eight.

Frank W. Murphy of Portage received a surprise Saturday when a $5 bill sent from France on August 30, 1918 by his father T. C. Murphy finally arrived. The letter, routed through the dead letter office in Washington and Europe, took almost eighteen months to complete its journey, with the envelope bearing many post marks and a note from Lieut Max K. Vitt about the letter being opened by another Frank Murphy and turned over to postal authorities.
