William Farnum, noted motion picture figure, purchases the serene Hollywood hill residence from Dr Atkinson for 80000. The 744 acre estate commands mountain valley and ocean views and draws interest from other film industry buyers.
A Madisonian report from Southern California claims living is cheaper there with butter at 73 cents a pound and eggs at 85 cents a dozen, while a Pasadena letter notes California costs still rise though hens improve. Comparing prices shows most items higher on the Pacific coast than in Madison, despite low fuel needs and wages for maids and Japanese workers in Pasadena.
Officials of the railroad commission note a growing trend of small municipalities selling heat and power plants to large state companies. Crandon Blair Grantsburg Black Creek Eleva Thorpe have already sold, while Kiel and New Holstein negotiate with Wisconsin Light Heat and Power. The move stems from second rate antiquated equipment and inability to compete with big overing concerns.

The L S C met Feb 12 at Mrs Walter Kimball’s home with nineteen members and one visitor. Rooms were Lincoln birthday themed. Members discussed bills and the janitor’s salary. New member Mrs Max Till voted in. The next meeting Feb 26 with the president features a Washington program. Refreshments were served by Mrs R Montanye.
Baraboo officials discuss buying additional land for a junior high or high school complex. The plan targets blocks 38 and 37 near Second Street and the Y M C A, with options on several homes including the Noyes residence. City to relocate Ash Street for school access and river frontage lands may follow later.
Andrew Ruches of Sparta is reported to be progressing well after his leg was amputated at St. Saviors Hospital following a freight train accident in the west Portase yards. He was walking on top of the moving train when he fell under the wheels.
E. A. Jones of Portage was injured in a Chicago auto bus collision sustaining a scalp wound and shoulder and arm injuries. He was taken to a hospital, regained consciousness, had injuries dressed, and returned home later that week. Jones was in Chicago for his jewelry business and was injured on a main street.
