Vincent Grady aged 17, son of Thomas Grady grocer, was killed near Northwestern station when a freight train engine struck a cross beam he was hoisting to a telegraph pole. He was a Oregon High School junior and Western Union worker repairing lines along the tracks.
Arthur Weidman, son of C Weidman of Baraboo Kilbourn road, came home after forty days on the firing line in France. He left the Rhine July 15 and marched in New York and Quantico for the president. He saw minor gas exposure and hospital tagging, but returned to the ranks. He spent a year and six months in service. His four year old son resides with relatives at Cazenovia, who then joined him home.
Miss Neva G. Rundle daughter of Mr and Mrs Sylvester Rundle Portage married Domminick B Baima of LaSalle Ill at Woodland Avenue Baptist church Detroit Mich Dr William Walker officiated The wedding is a romance of the war.
Idell Gates Wheeler daughter of the Gates murder victim is brought from Peoria Illinois to Kilbourn for burial. She died suddenly in Peoria and a costly metallic casket accompanied her body. Her brother and sisters from distant areas travelled with the remains.
In a playful exchange two students discuss a strong runner who reportedly set three record marks the previous week while a third student jokes about keeping him from racing the Victrola Penn Froth.
Dr Francis A Malone of Waterford, tied to a fatal Milwaukee crash on February 7, is named in a $10 000 damage suit by John L Arnold as administrator for Barney G Weber’s estate. Malone countersues for $15 000 for personal injuries after a Greenfield and Twenty first Avenues collision killed Weber and injured others. A coroner's jury exonerated Malone. he is brother to attorney John A Malone of Baraboo.
Mrs. Alexander Weidman of Westfield celebrated her eighty six birthday with relatives and friends. She resides in Westfield, remains active, and handles household duties with one son at home. Attendants included sons Henry Grant Clifford Westfield and geologist Professor Samuel Weidman of Madison. daughter absent. Baraboo visitors included Mr and Mrs John Rumpf Mr and Mrs Wm Stackhouse Mrs Albert Mattke Mrs Henry Alexander Miss Lois Biege and Miss Virginia Davidson.
The Wisconsin conservation commission in LaCrosse accepted a donation of 600 acres in Trempealeau county from John A. Latsch of Wisconsin to form a state park. The land sits on a mountain peak rising from the Mississippi near Trempealeau bay and recalls explorer Nicolas Perrot who built a cabin there in 1685.
It is doubtful women will be allowed to vote on the soldiers bonus bill at the special referendum on September 2. Wisconsin has ratified the woman suffrage amendment, but 36 states have not yet given consent to Congress.
Hugh McGorty, a Buffalo farmer, was badly beaten about the face and head in Portage shortly after midnight Friday. He reported to Acting District Attorney Bogue and Chief of Police Curry Saturday, saying he and four others were involved in a dispute that left him bruised and battered.
C L Herrington and James Neving state conservation commissioners visited Devils Lake on Sunday to inspect the Warner road route. Park Superintendent Atwood Smith led the tour through the wooded stretch at the foot of the bluffs while J J McDonald, connected to a former park superintendent, directed progress. Tree clearing has finished along this section and stump removal is underway as plans for culverts and related structures near completion.
Eddie Cantor and other Ziegfeld Follies stars were named as defendants in $500000 damages suits by the Ziegfeld Follies Inc. Summons were served on Cantor Gus Van Joseph Schenck and Johnny Daly as the complaint was not filed. The case follows an injunction clash with Actors Equity over production interference.
A marketing commissioner appointment will be announced soon after a meeting of the state marketing advisory board. Members include Secretary of State Merlin Hull Attorney General J J Blaine and Commissioner of Agriculture Norgard. J B Borden, former secretary of the state council of defense, is expected to be named.
Police say a syndicate operated since January with cars moving between Minnesota Wisconsin and Illinois. Detectives recovered Milwaukee vehicles in Minneapolis with as many as twenty stored locally. The ring used altered frames and new plates, aided by targeted secondhand car buyers. A greenhouse fire at Alderman Ross’s East and Hight streets property caused by spontaneous combustion of coal burned several thousand dollars with no insurance. Wing the dog died defending the burning building.
Baraboo beat Adams 11 to 8 in a rain delayed baseball game at Devils Lake. The contest ran from 3 PM to 6 15 PM with five Adams runs in the second inning and Baraboo holding the visitors to three more thereafter. Baraboo players included Isenberg Ryan Stewart Cooper Brennan Curtis Vogel Hart Rice. Adams lineup featured Snyder Chesebro Powell Towner Hintz Rawson Rank Raeffess Thompson and Be.
Reverend F. A. Gilmore long time Unitarian pastor of Madison and known in Baraboo died Sunday at a camp in Maine. He leaves a wife and one married daughter. Two of his sons died in military service.
Hay crops in Wisconsin suffered little injury from dry July weather, per Joseph A. Becker of the Wisconsin Cooperative Crop Reporting Service. Harvest was underway statewide as drought began, with an August 1 forecast of 5,437,000 tons total hay and a July forecast of 5,713,000 tons. Acreage totals show tame hay at 2,753,000 acres and wild hay at 344,000 acres, about 98 percent of last year.
Two large Oakland cars collided on the road near the Spring Green fair grounds. No one was injured. Sheriff Frank Rodgers and deputy Helgerson of Viroqua were transporting an insane woman to Mendota when their cars crashed. The sheriff continued to Mendota in a Ford. his car was later fixed to return to Viroqua that night. Fred Hazeltine of Mazomanie was also involved, with his vehicle sustaining less damage.
When the circuit court begins September 8 Judge E Ray Stevens will preside a week and Judge James O Neill of Neillsville will sit for the remainder of the term. The Chautauqua committee at Richland Center sank 300 planks in the hole. Yeet they keep at it like a cat goes to cream.

Catherine Southwell, 20, of Beaver City Nebraska, admitted posing as Sergeant J K Southwell the Argonne hero who single handedly captured a German machine gun nest and led eighteen prisoners. She attempted to join the army, wore a discharged sergeant uniform, and drifted for three weeks before telling a Pueblo Colorado detective of the ruse.

The Presbyterian church and Sunday school held a Tuesday picnic at Ochsner Park with about 160 attendees. Activities included games directed by Miss Bevelyn Bassett, a men vs boys baseball game won 11 to 1, a tied teachers vs boys match, ice cream, and a basket supper amid a bright park setting.
J M Pilley known as Master Pilley, son of Mr and Mrs J M Pilley, has returned from France after enlisting in Seattle last year. He served in San Francisco then sailed to France and joined a Paris 11th regiment headquarters company in the radio service. He visited Paris England and other parts of Europe and enjoyed his stay abroad.
Two Riley Stone team buggies the greys and the blacks left the barn after dinner causing a runaway. The frightened horse struck a telephone pole breaking equipment before escaping into a cornfield where handlers finally caught it. Tom McCoy of Reedsburg was badly bruised after a tree trimming fall.
Greenfield defeated Fairfield 18 to 14 at Tuckers Bridge Sunday in front of a large crowd. Key performances came from Squires and Schneider for Greenfield, with a lineup featuring Schneider, Squires, Karg, Towers, Koberstein, Kessler, Zimmerman, Luebke and others.
Miss Alice Sweeney of Reedsburg and Mr Edgar Horen of Aurora Illinois united in marriage at Sacred Heart church Reedsburg performed by Rev Fr Kierman at eight. Bride attended by sister Ella Sweney groom by Hary Shedlowski. A wedding breakfast followed at the bride’s home Myrtle Street. The couple will reside in Aurora Illinois.
