Special to The Journal from Quitman reports the Brooks County board of county commissioners adopting resolutions denouncing lawless acts, condemning exaggerated race riot reports, and urging trials for criminals. They state the violence was caused by about twenty five white men, with minimal local involvement, and call for a fair investigation.
New Orleans businessmen S B Allison and A L Center visited Tallahassee to organize a joint stock company of 200000 capital to promote ramie cultivation on 500 to 1000 acres and a decorticating plant. They will share one third of stock with C T & G railroad interests and public subscription. Center, an importer, and Allison, the ramie decorticating inventor, anticipate expanding into cotton mill ventures after establishing ramie operations in the region.
