Sudan Grass Aids Pasture Growth For Minnesota Farms
University of Minnesota extension agronomist Rodney A Briggs recommends Sudan grass to boost summer pasture recovery during dry spells. The Piper variety, bred in Wisconsin for low Prussic acid and leaf-spot resistance, should be drilled 25 to 30 pounds per acre on a fertile seed bed and grazed after five to seven weeks at 15 inches tall. Growing Sudan with soybeans (10 to 15 pounds Sudan plus one bushel soybeans) makes valuable silage.
