The Brothers of the Brush lead Austin's Centennial activities with a whisker contest begun after March 12 at the second Centenary Committee meeting. Participants grow beards to recapture the city's early atmosphere and honor founders while promoting the 100th birthday celebration.
General Nathan F Twining visited Moscow to observe Soviet air forces and attend Aviation Day. He stated the trip is professional and intended to study new equipment and developments for the U S Air Force and Pentagon.
A 17 year old sailor on leave Harlan Swanson drowned while swimming in Lake Byllesby near Cannon Falls Minnesota. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Henry Swanson of Cannon Falls.

Rochester city council approves a site nine miles south of the city near Highways 63 and 30 for a new municipal airport. The move aims to secure state and federal approval with an estimated cost of 34 million dollars for about 2,000 acres. The main runway will be 6,500 feet and a cross runway about 4,000 feet. The current airport handles 18 scheduled commercial flights daily.
President Eisenhower’s physicians say he will be able to leave the hospital in about a week if recovery continues. An aide notes he discussed political matters on Saturday, the first since hospitalization June 8, but no hint about remaining in the presidential race.

A Hawkeye Trucking Co. cargo truck carrying 17 tons of dynamite collided with a car carrying three Minnesota family members moving to Colorado. No serious injuries. Mrs. Orville Larson and two sons sustained cuts and bruises. Collision occurred at Highways 20 and 69 near Webster City, Iowa. Deputy Sheriff Jerry Farnham investigated. the truck was driven by Leonard W. Page of Des Moines. Marvel Larson rode in a second car with the husband and another son en route to Colorado Springs, Colo.
At the 22nd ELC biennial convention in Minneapolis Dr Philip Dybvig urged uniting world cultures under Christian influence to quicken Americas role and leadership. The body authorized joining the World Council of Churches 143 to 685 and discussed a 1960 merger with three Lutheran bodies. A Brazil mission field was proposed with preliminary talks noting about half a million Lutherans there.
