Rioting in Narbonne Ends in Bloodshed and Brutality
June 21 Narbonne reports riotous mobs attacking police and secret agents. A lynched police agent was shot and dumped in a canal, later dragged through streets. four killed, eleven wounded, multiple gendarmes injured. Troops fired in self defense as civilians and soldiers clashed amid chaos. The One Hundred and Thirty-ninth Regiment faced blame, its commander resigning after the incident. Public memorials note “here fell the victims of the One Hundred and Thirty-ninth.”
