Ship Disaster Off Mendocino Sinks Columbia with 177 Lost

Eureka California July 23 survivors say 177 of 249 aboard the steamer Columbia perished after it collided with the schooner San Pedro near Shelter Cove. The Elder towed the San Pedro. 107 passengers and 37 crew were saved. Rescue efforts continued as details and counts remained uncertain.

Collision of the Columbia and San Pedro at sea
