Murphy's announces a Friday sale starting Jan 24 at 2 00 pm featuring remnants in dress goods linings laces embroideries muslins and more with hourly price drops from regular tags down to five cents and special price reductions on hats cloaks coats and linens running through Jan 27 with a warning that early calling yields better assortments.
Waterloo Iowa January 24 Speaker Henderson objects to tariff revision by Congress arguing it would harm business. He says jobbers would pause purchases and manufacturers cut payrolls, while urging tax reductions. The letter follows a 70-man Waterloo Cedar Falls business group petition. He favors keeping the tariff and reducing national taxes now rather than opening revision.
Washington January 24—The industrial commission has completed its final report and sent it to the printer. The document will be presented to Congress as required by law in the next few days. It discusses questions raised during the inquiry with separate sections and recommendations. The report largely follows the President's recommendations on trusts and urges national government supervision. The most radical proposal calls for direct federal oversight of books.

The McCormick Harvesting Machine company asks Chicago sanitary district trustees to lease 20 acres on the north bank of the drainage canal east of Western avenue for up to 60 years. The lease would be at a 4 percent annual rental based on land value to develop dockage along the slip and canal for substantial revenue potential.
The sanitary district proposes transferring 18 gutterage reef to the canal if trustees accept. It owns a land strip 300 feet wide on each side of the canal, totaling 600 feet wide and extending 40 miles.
A Milwaukee mass meeting passed a formal invitation to Prince Henry of Prussia through the German ambassador in Washington. Fifty five German societies and nearly all city clubs were present, ending with a cordial invitation for the royal visit and a 15 member committee to arrange the entertainment.

Joe Higginbotham a colored man was found guilty of criminal assault on Mrs. Ralph Webber in Lynchburg Virginia and sentenced to be hanged on February 24 He admitted guilt after the January 11 attack that included a throat cut attempt.
