No member was ready to proceed while the commerce department measure remained under discussion for about two hours with little progress. The chamber aimed to carefully consider and tighten details rather than oppose core provisions.

In a San Francisco dispatch several Chilean vessels that sailed from Northern coast lumber ports toward South America are believed lost. Listed are the Admiral Tegetthoff and Antoinetta from Chemainus bound for Antofagasta, Emma Louisa and India from Blakely for Valparaiso, Lake Leman from Whatcom for Valparaiso, Royal Sovereign from Tacoma for Valparaiso, and Santa Rosa from Port Blakely for Peyote Peru. An ordinary voyage lasts 60 to 75 days.
A joint committee will elect a member who decides tie questions and will oversee membership durante the life of the agreement. This joint body unites employer and employee to decide who may join the union, assessing applicants' competency. It aims to end strikes and lockouts by governing both organizations.
Pittsburg Jan 23 A new feature in the threatened window glass war emerged as the American Window Glass company voluntarily raised wages for all skilled workers by 10 to 15 percent benefiting 6000 men. Hearing this, President C P Cole of the Independent Window Glass company pledged a similar raise, bringing the total affected workers to about 10900.
Ex president Cleveland leaves Princeton for the South to hunt with Colonel Roc Benedict Rear Admiral Evans General Anson G McCook and Herman May. The party will travel to Georgetown South Carolina then to Colonels Alexander’s island home. Cleveland appears in normal health. Mrs Cleveland accompanies him to Philadelphia.
Berlin reports New York bankers subscribed the largest portion of a 300 million mark 3 percent loan. Empire issues 115 million marks, Prussia 185 million, while London France Belgium and Switzerland also subscribed heavily. The loan was oversubscribed sixty times, a record in imperial financial history.
A report from Kemper county, Mississippi, states that several men came to the home of Mr. White and in a quarrel shot him, causing a painful wound. The house was burned afterward. A later report claims two women were shot and four children cremated.
Beloit resident Mrs. Mary A. Hunt aged 100 celebrated her birthday on January 23. Born in Goshen New York in 1802 she remains sharp and active both mentally and physically according to local observers.
