Compromise Raises Minimum Wage to Seventy-Five Cents
A House conference committee agreed on a plan to raise the federal minimum wage from 40 to 75 cents, with key disputes over who is covered by the law. The draft excludes about a million workers under the House bill, about 200,000 under the Senate version, and introduces a direct essential to standard. The measure, effective 90 days after enactment, also broadens newspaper exemption to 4,000 copies and includes newsboys under wage and hour rules.
