Cotton allotment method sparks Texas farming rows
Central Texas farmers protest how acreage allotments are set under PMA rules. Texas chose 95 percent of the 1947-48 average, harming counties like Bastrop by shifting to war crops. Travis County reports show 28.82 to 31.54 percent of cropland allotted to cotton, with county results varying by prior plantings and credits. The statewide cotton referendum is set for Thursday with production quotas at stake.
