He was chosen Saturday to succeed Dean A. P. Brogan of the University of Texas as president of the Texas Philosophical Society. George Waverly Briggs of Dallas was named treasurer.
The Travis Post 76 American Legion plans its annual Christmas party Monday at 7 30 p m at the Legion home on Lake Austin Boulevard. Commander L L B Buddy Hofer and Doris Anderson auxiliary unit president announced. The meeting also approved a public showing of the film Nuernberg Trials to be shown January 15.

Four persons suffered minor injuries in a head-on collision in the 1600 block East Seventh Street Monday night. Clarence B. Foster his wife and daughter Beverly were treated at Brackenridge Hospital for lacerations and released. Daniel Villapondo Route 1 was treated for abrasions. Officer J H Poole said Villapondo drove one car and Foster the other.
The South Austin Cleaners at 1608 South Congress reported a weekend burglary. Owner George Neill said the intruder entered the shop and stole about six dollars in change from the cash register and an undetermined amount of pennies from a peanut machine.
The American Capitol Staff reports a Fort Worth endowment by the late Frank Hays McFarland and Mrs. McFarland is a charitable foundation exempt from state inheritance taxes. The income funds St Andrew's Church Fort Worth 45 percent to nurseries in Tarrant and Parker counties 45 percent for youth vocational loans with the remainder for operating expenses.
Three junior high school girls told Detective Joe Perry they were approached by a middle aged Negro man in a light tan coat and brown trousers as they left University Junior High School in the 2100 block of Red River. The incident was reported Monday to police and described as an exposure case.
Joe Perry was reelected president of the Austin Police Association at a meeting in the 126th District Courtroom Monday night. Herby Taylor became vice president, B H Rosen was reelected secretary treasurer, Joe Taylor was named sergeant-at-arms, and Harvey Gann, T O Lang, and M M M Lee were named new directors. The association is composed of Austin police department members.
Master Sergeant Arthur Marroquin of Brownsville named National Guard champion recruiter for January and to receive a hunting rifle donated by Governor Allan Shivers. He signed up 40 new members. Company B at Harlingen earned the top unit honor with the most recruits. Adjutant General Berry announced the campaign added 2,167 recruits, surpassing the 2,000 goal and lifting Texas Guard to a record strength above 17,000.
An Austin man Valeriano Duran age 19 from East Fourth Street died outside Brackenridge Hospital emergency room. He was found in the hall by Edith Turner director of nurses and pronounced dead by Doctor L Hunt. Duran had been attending the hospital clinic and suffered from a heart ailment. Justice of the Peace Frank McBee ruled death from natural causes.
Col Eugene V. Spence, Texas commissioner, announced a January meeting for Canadian River compact organization and study. Gov Mab of New Mexico named John H. Bliss as New Mexico’s Canadian River commissioner and Oklahoma’s Roy Turner appointed Clarence Burch as Oklahoma’s commissioner. Spence will coordinate with the new appointees before fixing time and place.
