Svadlenak Buys Williamson's First Bale at Auction
Rep Frank Svadlenak of Thrall bought Williamson County's first 1949 cotton bale for 40 cents a pound at public sale on the Taylor City Hall lawn. The 480 pound bale grown by Joe Zebulka was ginned nearby and brought to Taylor. Zebulka's sons Johnnie and Alex and Jones Zebulka were noted. Paul Watson of the Chamber of Commerce awarded a $100 savings bond.

Six rural San Saba County school buildings declared dormant were deeded by the school board to local community associations for use as community centers. Camp Meeting Set At Llano Boys Ranch
An old time camp meeting will be held at Buckner Boys Ranch on the Colorado River near Llano from August 5 to 14. Ranch manager Olin Miles says Dr. Hal Buckner, Buckner Orphanage president, and Dr. Perry Evans will conduct services each night under a brush arbor with attendees camping from distant places.

Two Oklahoma youths arrested in stolen car near Georgetown
State Highway Patrol stopped two 16 year olds in a stolen Oklahoma City car near Georgetown. One fled and later attempted to burglarize the home of Williamson County deputy Henry Mataysek. Both teens confessed to stealing the car and burglarizing locations along the journey and are held for Oklahoma authorities.
