The Senate backs a school property tax hold at current levels for a year while a new financing system is devised.
A bill provides 42.00 dollars per pupil in new state aid for the coming year. A different funding method for the school foundation plan is circulating in the House. A bill may allow men to receive hair styling in beauty shops, reflecting a rising liberation trend.
Pastor Oscar Marquardt of Cherokee will speak at St. Paul Lutheran church tonight as the second Lenten service. The 7 30 p m gathering includes a children object lesson and the public is invited.
County Fund Drive included Easter Seal Society with a $1600 budget. Donors who contributed may keep the seals they received and are not required to respond to the appeal.
Kay Dumkrieger a South Dakota State University student from Brookings toured with the campus concert choir from February 25 to March 2 performing in Iowa and Chicago Illinois. Earlier in January she acted in the University production of Oliver January 14 to 17 and Sioux Falls January 28 to 30. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs LeRoy Dumkrieger.
Homemakers are invited to a meeting on creativity in interior decoration at 1 30 p m March 9 at the Sanford Museum Cherokee. The event is announced by Theda Nell Scott Extension Home Economist and invites ideas on finding and using home accessories.
The Sioux City Area Extension Service hosts a creativity program on using well designed objects for home decor. Miss Sharon Wedberg and Mrs. Betty Block lead tips on finding and using stylish items. Guest demonstrator Mary Margaret Rupper Meserole from Lake City shows creative art for decorating.
A heartfelt thanks to classmates friends relatives for cards flowers gifts and visits during hospital stay and after returning home. Special appreciation to Pastor Harry Sioux Valley School basketball girls faculty and Mr Curry for visits and well wishes following the accident.
Irene Zwemke Erick Turnquist was found dead early Sunday morning one half mile from his home. His death was ruled due to over exposure. He is survived by his wife and several children. Larry Kuhrts, recently discharged after three years in the army, returned home Friday morning from Berlin. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Friedrich joined Mr. and Mrs. Warren Buman to attend the R E C Convention in Dallas. Dennis Hinkeldey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Hinkeldey, was honored on his fourth birthday Wednesday evening.
Thursday guests included Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hinkeldey and Mr. and Mrs. Manuel DeForest of Wall Lake, Dennis visiting on furlough with Mrs. Alpha Hinkeldey. Laurence Turnquist and wife welcomed a son Feb 20 at Buena Vista hospital. Mrs. Albert Otto admitted to Alta hospital on Feb 22. Weekend guests Mr. and Mrs. Enoch Johnson of Trimont Minn. visited Pastor Dennis Schultz and Debbie. Dwaine Davis family from Topeka Kans. visited Mrs. Alpha Hinkeldey. Mrs. Kenneth Schmidt attended a bridal shower for Donna Box of Schaller.
