Florence Charlotte Therese Huseman born December 21 1909 near Worms Nebraska taught at Concordia Teachers College and in Hanover before marriage to Walter Huseman on August 20 1930. Survived by husband three sons five daughters mother siblings and several relatives. Died June 2 1950 after long illness.
Funeral services for a community member were held Thursday from St John Lutheran Church with Rev H J Witzgall officiating. Relatives from Omaha Cleveland and local families attended with pallbearers named and burial at St John Cemetery Hanover. Other local family visits and guests from Davenport and Aurora extended the weekend and weekend travel plans.
Afton vicinity notes report A C C members met with Leone Mummert on Wednesday to finalize plans for Sunday's noon picnic in Cherokee park. Prizes were awarded to Grace Mummert Inez Hahn and Betty Kolpin. Lunch followed and the next meeting will be with Elsie Odle.
Earle Raun urges cleaning barns first before any spraying and recommends a two week gap between whitewash and lindane fly control. Do not mix products or spray onto feed. Lindane and methoxychlor ratios are provided for dairy barns, with specific application rates per 1000 square feet. A separate note from Francis Kutish predicts a pig crowding trend for an early August market.
This week church events include no Sunday school or morning service for Conference Sunday. At 8:00 p.m. youth fellowship meets at the church parlors with Nancy Halliene of Marcus sharing her Europe trip. Naomi circle meets Thursday afternoon June 29 and choir practice Thursday evening.
Regular hours of Sunday services at the First Congregational Church led by Pastor J. E. Gebhardt include Sunday School at 10 a.m. and Worship Service at 11 a.m. All who wish to share in the fellowship are welcome.
St Pauls Lutheran Church led by Pastor E. J. Wehrspann hosts a 9:45 a.m. divine service followed by a 10:45 a.m. Sunday school session.
Henry Olsen, pastor invites at Mt Olive Baptist Church parsonage with church school at 10:00 a.m. worship service at 11:00 a.m. and evangel service at 8:00 p.m. You are welcome.

Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta Iowa invites all to a Saturday mid summer coffee from 8 to 11 am with lunch on offer by the Daughters of Trinity. An 10 am church school class at 10:30 am birthday bank and pictures, 11 am worship with Nebr. guest speaker. Board of Administration meets Tuesday at 8 pm. A sacred concert by Augsburg College Male Quartette Friday June 30 at 8 pm with free will offering.
Three Remsen fishermen Le Roy Bunkers Paul Treinen and Gilbert Wagner lost about 75 bullheads and most tackle when their boat capsized in a Minnesota lake. Two could not swim but wore life jackets. they were rescued after 45 minutes in cold water. Dusting is an effective corn borer control but spraying yields better results in most conditions with timing as key.
