Two Field Methods to Fight Small Ragweed in Iowa Pastures
Iowa State College botanist Dr L H Pammel cites a survey showing 80 percent of Iowa pastures infested with small ragweed. Two control methods are advised: cut the weed with a scythe or mower as it nears bloom, since it is an annual. or spray with 100 pounds iron sulfate to a barrel of water in early June when plants are 6 inches to a foot high, though this is effective only with a spray outfit and will bitter the bluegrass until rains wash the sulfate away. Cultivation also kills the weed but is less reliable in pasture.
