Fall Pigs Seen Profitable for Iowa Farmers This Fall
Iowa State College farm economist Francis Kutish says late spring pig numbers are up and a good corn crop could push hog prices high. The U S Department of Agriculture urges a 10 percent rise in fall pig production to 34 million pigs for 1949 spring and summer markets, offsetting declines in beef and lamb output. With corn crop prospects and lower feed prices, fall farrowing looks favorable for Iowa farms set to breed sows in September and October.
