Grass Seed Harvest Boon to Farmers in Aurelia Area
Aurelia becomes the nation’s top blue grass seed region says I J Tomlinson of Red Oak Iowa after a month long harvest on Maple bottom and nearby lands. About eight carloads of uncleaned seed were collected and stored locally for cleaning before market. Tomlinson notes half the seed is sent to Germany, paid farmers up to four dollars per day for team hauling, and 31 machines operated at peak. He estimates five thousand dollars paid to farmers and laborers and foresees continued harvest and possible local cleaning mill development.
