William Henry Diercks born August 18 1862 in Hanover Germany died January 20 1933 at home in Aurelia Iowa after a short illness aged 70 years 5 months 7 days. He immigrated 48 years ago settled in Aurelia worked as a carpenter married Margaret Miller in 1888 with four children three surviving William H of Hammond Indiana Wilford of Chicago and Clarence of Storm Lake. He leaves brothers Henry of Illinois Herman of Hanover and Dick of Aurelia and sisters Mary Felton Peterson Inna and Sophia Westphal Aurelia four grandchildren and many relatives. Funeral services were held at home with Rev W H Welch and burial in Aurelia cemetery. Relatives from surrounding towns attended.
Fritz Sump born January 4 1845 in Hanover Germany died January 20 1933 at his daughter Mrs Frank Kolpins home near Aurelia Iowa He was 88 years 15 days and had lived in Willscoun Lingis before moving to Cherokee County Iowa in 1878 He was the last veteran of his congregation Survived by two sons Frank Sump Storm Lake Iowa and Sump Aurelia two daughters Mrs Frank Kolpin and Mrs Alfred Stief along with 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren Funeral services were held Monday at the Afton Lutheran Church with Rev Braunechweig in charge Burial followed in the church cemetery
An instrument claiming to be the last will of William Diercks deceased dated January 15 1924 has been filed and is set for hearing at the Cherokee County District Court. All interested persons must appear at the courthouse in Cherokee Iowa to show cause why the will should not be probated and allowed. Dated January 23 1038 Cherokee Iowa.
The first grade reports the second semester begins with report cards due January 30. Seven students earned honor roll with averages 2.3 or higher and no D. Names include Myma Grienke Sonia Bergquist Ruth Williams Betty Anderson Kenneth Davis Donald Bengtson and Orrin Sweet. Perfect attendance listed for George Brady LaVorre Harden and Harold Nelson.
W H Welch pastorates morning service and Sunday School at 10:00 with sermon The Blind Lady of the Scales from Amos 6 24. Evening Epworth League at 6:30 and sermon Power of Prayer at 7:30. Congregational Church Edwin Trigg pastor with Church School 10:00 and Morning Worship 11:00 plus Christian Endeavor at 6:30.
