Cherokee county reports its first induction quota for the Korean War. Eight draftees from the area will depart September 7 by bus from Hotel Lewis in Cherokee for the induction center at Omaha. The group includes Joseph George 24 Leland Anderson 24 Donald Pearson 23 Gerald Hahn 23 Dale Larson 25 Aurelia, now Newton resident Clayton Lehnhardt 24 Aurelia Vernon Wester 25 Cleghorn Richard Sholly 23 Marcus with pre-induction exams completed.

The Iowa Public Service Company states it can meet stepped-up industrial power needs during mobilization. President G A Neal cites a 15 percent reserve and $26 million in postwar expansion including 8000 kilowatts at Sioux City Kirk Station 20000 kilowatts at Maynard Station Waterloo and a $15 million Carroll plant plus new 7500 kilowatt units at Eagle Grove and near Storm Lake.
