Threshing in the company ring started Wednesday afternoon of last week with fair yields. Rain Sunday and Monday delayed work but moisture boosted corn and garden crops. Miss Muriel Nordstrom visited her grandparents near Mt. Olive last week. Several Nordstrom and Haight relatives attended a party at the Earl Bruce home near Good Hope. Gust Lund of Alta visited the A. Peterson home midweek. J S Linquist and wife from Alta visited Grandma Linquist this week.
Pioneer residents of D? ship AL and Myr celebrate an anniversary. Miss Carrie Striker visited Miss Bess Pitcher. Mrs Kent and Mrs Bruce of Quimby called at the Theodore Nordstrom home. Herman Linquist was among the sickest early this week.
Mr and Mrs August Miller of Galva visited the Wa Speck eter home Friday afternoon. Mrs Fred Kaskey and daughter Opal of Sioux City spent a few days with the formers sisters Mrs Lou Lichtenberg and Mrs Fred Huseman. Mr and Mrs Reinhart Miller of Galva visited the Dick Schmidt home. Paul Robert and Richard Lemke of Holstein spent a few days at the Lester Kolpin home. Alma Otto who visited her mother Mrs Claude Otto returned to Des Moines Wednesday. Watch your subscription date.
Mrs Anton Peterson hosted three tables of bridge with prizes for Mrs K C Dagger and Mrs Walter Matzdorff. Mr and Mrs Vern Culver hosted a shower for Mr and Mrs George Kaskey with gifts and a slumber party for the girls. A picnic and birthday celebration followed at Mrs Alice Mummert with baskets and a bonntions dinner.
Storm Lake Register reports the First National Bank at Sioux Rapids has closed its doors after being on a waiver plan. Elm Duroe, bank president, was in Storm Lake. Low business conditions forced the decision. five teaching vacancies will not be filled next year as retrenchment moves proceed.
Pastor Edwin Trigg leads Congregational Church in a notice that no church or Sunday school services will be held on August 7 and August 14 due to unspecified reasons.
Afton and vicinity residents host and visit relatives while traveling between Spirit Lake and Cherokee. Guests include Mr. and Mrs. Einer Iverson and baby of Grand Island Nebraska and Elmer Iverson. Threshing delays due to rain, Farm Bureau at Irvin Hahn’s with 4-H program and a Mt. Vernon life play. Bonita Beck turns 20 with a party. Weekend guests from Cantor South Dakota at George Melton home.
Mt Olive area reports numerous social visits as families from Aurelia Cherokee Hartley and Diamond Center gather for dinners parties and church services. Notable items include plans for Rev Geo Bruce to lead Mt Olive evening service August 14 and wedding at Spencer last Wednesday.
For sale items include a white low shoe labeled Lost-Ladies and Whitney crab apples not wormy offered by W. H. Heimsoth. Price listed at $1.00 per bushel for the apples. Wave at Sentinel office for contact or pickup details.
A Sheldon Iowa meeting of county agents farmers and bankers examined contract feeding for lambs and cattle amid tight finances. They favored outright cattle purchase if funds allow but noted contracts help market feed when credit is scarce. A universal contract template cannot be provided but essentials will be shared through Farm Bureau. The group said feeding heifers contract feeding is impractical and should be avoided.
