The Covina district reports 75 bales of new crop cotton received from wagons and selling at 174 cents. 297 bales upland arrived, 153 cleared, 164 aboard not cleared. Sales include 53 bales old crop at 18 cents. buyers seek 21 cents for present year. One vessel bound for Liverpool remains the sole offer in the Southern Union.
The report records 1 331 548 bales of all descriptions up to October with an anticipated rise to 3 400 bales by season start, limited coffee sales of 20 Cuba bags, sugars showing 20 thirds Muscovado and a few more, no molasses sales, and a steady cotton market in New Orleans with 342 arrivals since Sept 2 including 300 new crop bales. Prices range middling to fair 17 to 174 cents and fair to good 18 to 19, with 28 18, 50 174, 68 18 etc. per lot.
