Cholera deaths in New York City show a rising pattern with daily tallies from the 4th to the 9th of the month. The Fayetteville Observer reports a damaging Cape Fear gale that destroyed crops, mills, and bridges disrupting mails along the southern route.
The Augusta Board of Health meets to discuss rumors of Asiatic cholera. It reports two sporadic cases from boats, urges caution with vegetables, and asks physicians to report new cases daily. One patient, a 60 year old Black river boat hand, died after melon consumption. the second, a Black fireman from Savannal, died after a long illness.
The Savannah Board of Health reports one cholera case aboard the Anguata Steamboat and several country cases in the low country with mixed fatal outcomes. Updates include evacuations, convalescences, and warnings as the disease progresses through plantations near the city.
A NORTHERNER argues for voting based on county interests and candidate fitness rather than ethnicity or faction. He praises genuine sentiment from True Yankee but calls for uniting Georgians across divisions to support a mixed ticket including two State Rights candidates and one Union man.
Notices report a declining cotton crop due to a worm, with health updates from Columbus on bilious fever subsiding after cool weather and rains. Additional items include land belonging to Columbus Bend Company, political commentary, a new paper in Washington, and fire damage from a lightning strike in Stevens.
The Augusta market reports steady cotton with prices from 13 to 13 1/3 cents per pound for new and old separately, weekly sales totaling 25,160 bales and a brisk demand for goods and yarn. Liverpool imports rise to 639,000 bales. Upland, Ocean, and Alabama grades listed, with stock estimates around 222,000 bales. Savannah market notes dull activity and light sales, with new crop around 14 1/4 cents and old at 13 1/3 cents. Flour at 6 dollars, corn at 60 cents, and freight to New York set at 75 cents per bushel.
The report notes limited activity with total sales about 172 bales. Prices repeat previous rates for uplands and middling to fair varieties, while regional stocks and exports show modest movement across cotton, sugar, coffee, molasses, flour, bacon, lard, and bags.
The Charleston Mercury notes exports of 3500 American and 1150 Brasis in the past month, with 6628 bags received from Charleston and 1007 from New Orleans. Sales total 2031 bags with upland and Louisiana, Alabama, and Tennessee lots priced around 119 to 125 pence. Stock stands at about 32 to 33 thousand bags.
