The packet ship Statira capt. Bartling, eight days from New York to a big port, struck the South Breakers in a northeast gale, bilged with five feet water. Capt. Bartling and part of the crew reached town seeking aid. hopes linger cargo may be saved damaged. Also reports heavy rain and a long gale in Charleston with debris and damaged homes, plus a New York fire on August 9 damaging several buildings.
