Historic act proposes a bridge over the Potomac within the District of Columbia with a fifteen foot wide draw and wharf building. Three commissioners to survey, toll rates listed, and penalties for noncompliance. Requires timely subscription and completion or powers lapse.
The text notes a toll arrangement for the Faid Bridge allowing the specified corporation to collect tolls for sixty years from opening for passengers, after which the bridge would become U.S. property and the corporation dissolved. Signed by Speaker B Varnum and Vice President George Clinton, approved February 5, 1808 by Thomas Jefferson.
