Letter on son’s military enlistment and promotion prospects
A Nashville dated 1812 letter from W. P. Anderson discusses his son Joseph A. Martin enlisting in the U S Army with his father’s consent. He asks that an appointment be considered only when he has appropriate experience, noting several local youths joined Captain Gray’s company. Anderson also includes reflections on merit, service, and the duties of adjutant, alongside a broader update on U S relations with Chile and remarks on naval actions near the Belvidere and Argus reports.
