A Schoharie resident vents at length about the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago. He mocks its architecture and exhibits as gaudy, impractical, and overblown. He argues Schoharie’s own county fair would rival Chicago’s, and predicts visitors will prefer Schoharie’s exhibit if they compare.
The piece reflects on Jesus weeping with sorrowing friends at Bethany over the death of Harry Sheets and other loved ones. It frames grief, comfort, and resurrection power, urging trust in the master’s words. Rev. J. B. MATILER signed the reflection, noting Christian solace and future reunion.
An executive committee organized in Muscatine for the Grand Lodge Knights of Pythias session August 8 to 10 1893. Wyoming Lodge No 76 Muscatine Division 12 U B and local citizens invite Knights and Sir Knights to attend with committees for finance entertainment invitations and reception. Also reports the marriage of Harry Robberts to Blanche Hopley at the Shopley home and their planned nuptial tour to Chicago for the Columbian Exposition.
The Infanta of Spain and the Prince of Orléans toured the White City, dining at Cafe Marine, visiting the Fine Arts and Spanish pavilions, and observing exhibits before departing by yacht to Niagara Falls. A farewell dinner at the Palmer House followed prior to their train departure.
