Chicago June 22 The Ferris Wheel by George Washington Gale Ferris of Pittsburgh began with 5 000 invited guests and then thousands of fairgoers, drawing civil engineers and inventor Ferris into the spotlight. Spectators enjoyed a smooth inaugural ride as the wheel rose to 250 feet then descended.
