Post office carrier force to rise to four men
Beginning tomorrow August 1 the city post office will increase carrier staff to four with A L Moreland as the new fourth. A civil service commission investigation led to Moreland's reinstatement. The exact division of work remains unsettled but redistricting of routes is possible. The enlarged service will cover virtually the entire city including areas north of the tracks and far southwest and southeast sections. Chestnut street may mark a north south division if redistricting occurs. Atlantic residents welcome the upgrade.

Widow Hawes Dies at Indianola Iowa in 1899
Mrs Mary C Hawes nee Crosthwall born January 6 1841 in Fulton county New Jersey moved to Lewis Cass county Iowa 1856. She married Dr J B Carey and after his death wed Edward D Hawes in 1864. She joined Methodist church at about fourteen and left four children. Short funeral held at home then burial in Atlantic Iowa. Cass County folks celebrate life and send sympathy to bereaved family.
