Judge Speer Reversed in W A Huff Case

New Orleans October The decision of Federal Judge Omory Speer for the southern district of Georgia in the suit involving the property interests of W A Huff was reversed by the federal circuit court of appeals. The higher court orders a referee to take up the case again as to the children of Huff and Mrs Matte Jennings. The case drew attention over contempt proceedings against Huff senior who was cited for contending delays and excessive fees. The matter linked to investigations into Judge Speer’s nets and prompted appeals by the Huff heirs to assert equity in certain properties. The case remains tied to creditors and a bankrupt estate with portions already sold bringing over ninety thousand dollars for distribution. The congressional probe into Judge Speer’s conduct stemmed from accusations by Colonel Huff regarding mismanagement and favoritism. The House Judiciary Committee ended impeachment prospects after deeming charges insufficient.
