Ask Council Aid For Ponce De Leon

Property owners on Ponce de Leon avenue representing about one third of the frontage between the bridge and Moreland avenue voted Friday to petition the general council to exempt that stretch and allow Georgia Railway and Power to lay crushed stone foundation under its tracks instead of the concrete base the city ordinance requires. The meeting, chaired by Alderman Edgar Dunlap, was in the minty ward business office. The south side of Ponce de Leon has been torn up for months as the railway fights the concrete base requirement. President Preston Arkwright cited cost and soil conditions to justify the request, arguing concrete is unnecessary under the tracks.
