Professor Hart Killed in Fight on Jekyl Island
Brunswick Ga May 29 Special News of a shooting on Jekyl Island near 10 o clock details are scarce. Professor J W Hart 45 assistant manager of the Millionaires club was shot by J H Thompson while turtle hunting on the beach. Three bullets struck Hart in face and head killing him instantly. Thompson a longtime island resident is held by authorities for inquest. Hart recently joined the club from Athens Ga where he taught at the State Agricultural College.

Waycross Georgia May 29 Special Francisco Villa a 19 year old Columbian Indian and two Cuban men recently arrived from Mexico were arrested here and held awaiting Florida officers. Villa says a suit stolen from a Jacksonville man was taken in settlement of a debt advanced for railroad fare from Tampa to Jacksonville.

A V Harrison Killed by Tenant Summers in Bogart Ga
A V Harrison, a prominent citizen of Bogart, Ga, was shot and killed in the afternoon by Ed Summers, a 42 year old farmer who was Harrison’s tenant and operated a sawmill. A dispute over a settlement led Summers to fire a shotgun through Harrison’s abdomen. Harrison died at once. his wife and children and Summers’ family witnessed the tragedy near Harrison’s house. No inquest or arrest had occurred by nightfall.

Rimouski Quebec May 29 Arroring sixty minutes after a bow on collision with Danish collier Storstad the liner Empress of Ireland sank in ninety feet of water with over 900 lives lost. Of 1367 aboard only 423 saved leaving about 924 dead. Rescue boats could not reach before the ship vanished leaving wreckage, lifeboats and rafts. Many survivors were in wet clothing and aid was rushed from Father Point and local trains to assist the sea disaster victims.

A survivors train from Rimouski reached Levis then Quebec with 237 crew and 300 plus passengers rescued. In all 432 saved from 1367 aboard the Empress of Ireland. 944 lost.
