Washington May 2 A Treasury dispute delays action on Atlanta exposition sale. Secretary Carlisle has not ruled, leaving Col Livingston unsure who holds the building. remarks on tariff progress focus on Senator Gorman’s push for a swift bill and unity among Democrats.
At Washington the Pan-American Bimetallic League convention debated resolutions and adopted a platform opposing further interest bearing bonds. It calls for free coinage of silver and gold at 16 to 1, pledges to support veto overrides, endorses $50 per capita currency via silver, treas ury notes, and $150 million in non interest bearing small notes, and urges treasury coinage of bullion.
The Senate confirmed Charles H. J. Taylor colored of Kansas to the DC recorder of deeds by a 34 to 15 vote. Taylor hails from Kansas City and secured support through Senator Martin. Also, Brooklyn tabernacle trustees meet to seek a temporary worship site at the Brooklyn rink on Clermont Avenue and hire Rev. B. Fey Mills to fill the pulpit during Dr. Talmage’s absence.
Oakland Cuy Indiana May 22 two hundred fifty striking miners march from Washington to Littles seven miles north armed with Winchester rifles and a wagon of ammunition provisions for thirty days. A battle at Littles mine wounds several including two fatally. six deputy sheriffs are disarmed. State militia prepared to move. observers refuse to talk. In Raleigh North Carolina ex congressman W H Kitchens declares he leaves the Democrats for the Populists in a second letter to the populist organ.
In St Paul Minnesota May 23 the Brotherhood elected officers including A B Youngson Menddville Pa as assistant grand chief and T B Ingraham re elected first grand engineer. C H Salmons of Aurora Illinois chosen second grand chief engineer. A list of fifteen candidate cities selected for next meeting with Columbus Ottawa and Salt Lake City leading. Also a note to suspend judgment on Senator Walsh until bill copy is submitted. Switchmen's Mutual Aid convention in Evansville Indiana May 2 cut salaries and expenses with per diem for directors and delegates. Miles W Barrett Kansas City named grand master and J M Murphy Birmingham secretary treasurer and journal editor. Rumor noted that Simsrott may still be alive.
Nashville, May 23. George Charist attempted a cable walk across Shelbyville's public square with his wife Lizzie. The line snapped causing both to plunge thirty five feet to the macadam. Charist suffers a broken hip and serious bruises but will recover. Lizzie Charist is seriously injured and will die. He had performed across the country without prior injury.
Johnstown Pa May 23 heavy rain alarmed Conemaugh valley residents but dawn brought relief as rivers did not rise dangerously. Mountain streams remain full but receding water is checked. No major damage reported and danger thought passed. Settlements included ex Mayor Willey Knights of Pythias funds dispute resolved for bond amount with bank deposits. May presents certificates for Kissel South Carolina Railway back interest payments. Train stealers from Montpelier Idaho sentenced. Rosebery's Ladas wins Newmarket stakes.

A heated floor fight ended with a compromise resolution praising Morgan and endorsing his re election. Harmony returned as other state posts were contested and resolved.

He argued for a revenue-based measure with selective protection, criticized Republican delays, and urged careful consideration to avoid deficits while aiding American industry. The session opened with sparse attendance as senators debated rates on iron and steel rails.
