Philadelphia on May 22 plans a nonpartisan gathering opposing free coinage of silver. Ex-Senator Mamunds and William N. Trenholm will speak at the Academy of Music, with Philadelphia business and political leaders signing invitations. Washington May 22 state authorities in Mississippi ignore treasury rules on quarantining vessels from yellow fever zones. Vessels Filcancer and E A Gaskill from Cuban ports were allowed entry after appeals, despite marine hospital concerns and fees. Dr Wyman argues proper disinfection requires strict national enforcement to keep yellow fever out of the south.

The Italian ambassador Baron Fava urged U S intervention over 125 Italian stone cutters in Pocahontas linked to the Southwestern Virginia Improvement Company. A fatal trolley collision on the Agnunciation street line in New Orleans leaves eleven year old Mebala Ebbinger dead. Her body was found in five pieces with her hand severed from the bucket she carried. She was a sitter of boxer Andy Bowen, previously fatally injured in a recent bout.
Commanderin-Chief Lawler of the Grand Army of the Republic said in Green Bay that no G A R posts will participate in the dedication ceremonies for the Confederate monument in Chicago on Memorial Day. He stated he is on the side of the G A R in principle but will not attend.

D McKinley MacArthur, a recent Brooklyn immigrant and editor of The Florida Magazine, was jailed for assault and cruelty toward his wife. She testified he beat her, knocked her down, and deprived her of food by locking the kitchen. The nineteen year old, formerly Miss Louie Hunt of 2287 Pacific Street, Brooklyn, said he funds from wealthy relatives in England.
In Tiftonia on May 22, J W Phelps and Judie Fletcher from Irwin County wed in a buggy at Judge Hawkins Goodman. Later the Fletcher brothers arrived with guns but found they were too late. Another couple from Adel, Mr Griffin and a fifteen year old bride, were married within minutes of arriving.
Bristol Tenn May 22 Special A missing Dr John Moore of Aikens Va vanished after leaping from a Norfolk and Western train. A boy fishing the Holston River today netted what is believed to be his body, ending a puzzling mystery. Also reported La Gascogne arrives after mid ocean engine trouble and a Senate move to appoint twenty women to the Woman’s Auxiliary Commission in Harrisburg.
Nashville May 22 Special Governor Turney appointed Charles Sykes of Nashville to be adjutant general. The post had been vacant since General Bite resigned two months ago. Capital Punishment Restored in Michigan. Bansing May 22 Senate passed by 18 to 12 a bill to restore capital punishment in certain cases in this state. Oscar Wilde Second Trial opens in London. London May 2 The second trial for alleged unnatural acts began at Old Bailey today.
