Season's First Peaches Seen In Americus Territory
Americus Ga May 1 The first peaches of the season have been shown here and ten days hence earlier varieties will be plentiful. The crop yield from orchards in the Americus territory will be disappointing this year due to unpropitious seasons and neglect. Best cared for orchards may reach about 50 percent of average. large orchards may yield only 10 percent. The Baglay orchard with 285 000 trees was cut down in January and burned, a blow to the local fruit industry. The owner preferred cotton farming to peaches. Henry M Flagler's condition was reported practically uncharged in West Palm Beach on May 13.
