Equal Treatment Demanded by Japs in Land Rights Debate
The article discusses Japanese criticism of a California land law under Webb statute, arguing it contravenes the 1921 treaty. It notes potential delays before enforcement, the broader issue of racial equality, and mentions historical moves ending extraterritorial rights as Japan seeks modern, equal treatment.
Exclusion League Aims to Tighten Alien Land Rules
San Francisco May 18 The Asiatic Exclusion League of California directs its legislative committee to draft a referendum petition on an alien land bill to be circulated after Gov Johnson signs the measure. The group opposes the Webb act leasing clause and seeks an initiative to bar Japanese and Chinese from ownership and leaseholds. Leaders argue the leasing right would let Japanese eventually own land, while some insist landlords would not be harmed. A meeting will convene tomorrow to advance the petition and perhaps present a draft initiative. Olava Tvettmoe, linked to the Los Angeles Times dynamiting case, presided and was re elected president of the Asiatic Exclusion League.

World Question, Says London Times
London May 19 The Times prints a three column article by Sir Valentine Chiro former foreign editor on the dispute between the United States and Japan. The piece analyzes Japan’s claim to equality with Western nations and notes the issue is a world question with potential danger for white races and a middle course of settlement hoped for. Japan should remember entering a neighbor’s garden cannot be pressed with unrestricted indignation even if treaty rights warrant it.

Bryan's Peace Talk Mocked in London Editorial
The Daily Mail ridicules Secretary Bryan for proclaiming no war during his term.
