The U S Supreme Court ruled that Tennessee property tax exemptions do not violate the state charter for the Mobile and Ohio Railroad Company. A Times-Democrat cable reports widespread circulation of counterfeit 6 cent government stamps in Mexico. Authorities have not traced the scam, while a funeral procession riot in Dublin ends with fatalities and multiple injuries. In Wheeling, union miners press a shutdown at Belleaire works, and Boston furniture firm Keeler & Co. collapses under heavy losses.
A burly blacksmith named Malcolm A Cherry disrupted the U S House proceedings in Washington claiming a divine mandate to push Coxey bills.
