Father and Son Shot to Death in Moore County
March 27 report from Madisonville says James Flowers and son John were killed by Constable Horace Witt during an arrest near A Carolina Land dispute over location of state lines led to forceful eviction. Witt says he acted to arrest two remaining Flowers, shots were fired, killing both men. Posse members pursued the other two Flowers, who fled. Witt demands full investigation of his actions.

In Bravefield on March 27 Harvey Williams, a burly Black man, assaulted Mary Jones the 1 year old daughter of a white miner, leaving her for dead on the Pocahontas mountain area. After she survived the assault Williams was found near Pocahontas and jailed in Bramwell as posses hunted for him. Authorities fear a mob will kill him and burn the jail tonight before daylight.
