A 1900s AP story from Aporte Indiana reports Julius Conitz the banker who failed for 190000 in mishaps around new railroad ventures. Winding up his affairs he left to North Dakota to start anew promising to repay every penny. After repaying about three percent he died of a broken heart. His widow then died by suicide. Creditors and depositors realized seventy percent.
In Chicago on March 13 a fire at the Arlington hotel started when Mrs Vivian Holmes, absorbed in Dante's Inferno, toppled a lamp. The lamp caused a blaze and an explosion, wounding her and her husband who slept nearby. Guests fled as property loss was described as small.
