County Deputy Walter H. Cheshire was fatally shot during a raid on a Sunday gambling room near Howell's Station. A lamp was kicked over, plunging the room into darkness as six to eight gamblers opened fire. one suspect, Don Henry Combes, was captured as Cheshire lay wounded.
Maddened by losing a lawsuit, a Denver Teamster went on a killing spree, fatally shooting three persons. Police say the assailant acted in a blind fury triggering a citywide manhunt and legal action.
