Georgia Children’s Home Society elects Candier president

The Georgia Children’s Home Society held its annual board meeting in Atlanta Tuesday afternoon. Candier was unanimously elected president to succeed Captain James W. English whose term expires. Superintendent Robert B. McCord proposed a central receiving station to reduce temporary placements and improve training for future permanent homes. The society reported 512 applications and 443 cases handled in the past year, signaling growing need for a receiving home. New officers and directors were named, with Judge Candler taking the presidency and several directors re-elected.

Strenuous Fight Begs Georgia Rail Revision

Rail carriers press a Georgia rate overhaul to end discriminatory intrastate pricing, proposing higher class rates for short hauls up to 130 miles and cuts for longer distances. They seek a southern classification to unify rules, extend commodity rate changes for lumber and fertilizer, and align with interstate revisions effective January 1. The Georgia petition urges a mileage tariff to remove interstate inconsistencies and boost small-town jobbing opportunities while offsetting revenue losses from long-haul rate cuts.
