Rutland Vermont March 7 local option won over prohibition by a margin of 13164 votes. The prohibitory amendment first appeared in 1852 and was repealed in 1903 by 723. Yes 18503 no 31665. Orleans county was the only county to vote against local option. The result surprised both sides and came as a boost to local option advocates and to the push for direct primary elections by 3700 votes.
