Sugar Trust Accusations Split on Free Sugar Bill
Washington dispatch reports the Republican minority on the House committee denounces the Underwood free sugar bill as surrendering revenue, destroying competition, and fostering a sugar trust monopoly. They allege collusion between the Democratic party and sugar refiners, claiming benefits would flow to imports and refiners while beet growers bear the cost.

Mitchell Refuses to Pledge Adherence to Judicial Decrees
Washington March 6 John Mitchell vice president of the American Federation of Labor declines to assure Judge Wright he will hereafter lend adherence to decrees of courts. He says such a statement would admit prior failure to comply and prefers contempt or conviction over an evasion. In a letter to the court he reiterates that any promise to follow decrees would contradict his past testimony and seek to deceive the court.
