The long running suit over the late Governor Joseph E Brown's estate proceeds as executors Julius I Brown and Joseph M Brown file an extensive 75 page answer denying mismanagement and insisting they cannot create tenants. Hearing set for twenty days hence, with March 27 trial date anticipated. The document details stock, rents, and dissents while addressing prohibition era rhetoric and family estates.
John Hesringer Reagan dies at Palestine Texas at age 86 from pneumonia following lung trouble. Survived by wife and daughters, the funeral set for Wednesday. Reagan, born 1818 in Bevier County Tennessee, served as postmaster general of the Confederacy and later U.S. senator and railroad regulator, with key roles in commerce and reconstruction. He authored the Reagan interstate commerce act and influenced Texas secession policy.
A nervous collapse ended the first day of Mrs Cassie L Chadwick's trial in Cleveland as she fainted after indicating she could not continue. St Petersburg March 6 The Associated Press reports Gen Kuropatkin attacked Field Marshal Oyama s left center east of the railway as desperate fighting raged along a broad front. casualties reach about 23 500 killed and wounded with Oyama s forces believed exhausted. Prisoners claim Negi s troops suffered food shortages for two days.
War dispatches report shifting fortunes near Mukden as Japanese forces push against Russian positions. Kuropatkin reportedly seeks retreat toward Harbin while Japanese center steadies to encircle Russian flanks. Russian casualties cited as 12,000 wounded versus 30,000 Japanese killed or wounded. Niuchwang hints at Japanese north of Mukden. General Nogi advances on the left, with wings moving to encircle Mukden from the north and west.
