Gore seeks inquiry into Indian land sales and lawyer fees
Washington June 25 The senate adopted a Gore resolution to probe asphalt and coal land sales of Choctaw and Chickasaw lands. It asks if private counsel or agents are needed and if a 10 percent fee is reasonable. Gore alleged efforts to enroll 10000 negroes for large fees. He questioned other attorneys and warned of “dens of wolves” in Oklahoma. The move ties to the deficieny bill as conferees push stronger protections and require congressional approval for all contracts with Indians past present or future.
